Maple-Sage Poached Hosui Pears

We are leaning into fall flavors, starting with woody sage and warm cinnamon to bring a little coziness to chilly evenings and mornings. Hosui pears shine in this simple yet elegant dessert — easy to make, impressive to serve, and delicious warm or chilled.

Maple-Sage Poached Hosui Pears

Ingredients:

4 Hosui pears, peeled, halved, and cored

2 cups water

½ cup pure maple syrup
1 cinnamon stick

2–3 strips orange peel

2 fresh sage leaves

1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine water, maple syrup, cinnamon stick, orange peel, and sage. Bring to a gentle simmer.

  2. Add the pears, cut side down, and partially cover.

  3. Simmer over low heat for 15–20 minutes, turning occasionally, until just tender.

  4. Remove the pears and sage leaves. Continue simmering the liquid until slightly thickened into a light syrup.

  5. Serve the pears warm or chilled, drizzled with the syrup.
